CECA with Malaysia

See the news. India is entering a CECA with Malaysia with an "ASEAN-PLUS/WTO-PLUS" approach. This will allow freer mutual investments in almost hundred services subsectors in both the countries.  I am personally unable to visualise what this really mean at this point of time. However I was drawn to the last paragraph of the article.

Malaysia and India sought and achieved preferential tariffs beyond those in India's now-operational accord on trade in goods with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Malaysia would receive preferential tariffs for its palm oil, palm oil products, cocoa, and textiles (synthetics). India, she said, was being given a similar market access for basmati rice, mangoes, and cotton.

മനോരമക്കാരന്‍ പറയുന്നത് വലത്തോട്ടു പായേണ്ട കേരളത്തെ ഇടത്തോട്ടു ചായ്ച്ചതാണ് നമ്മുടെ അപരാധം എന്നാണ്. (ബൈ ദ ബൈ...മുകളില്‍ ഞാന്‍ കോപി പേസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത സാധനം മനോരമയുടെ സ്വന്തം ഫോണ്ട് ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലെ കാണാന്‍ പറ്റൂ. അവര് യുണികോഡ് ഫോണ്ട് അല്ല ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നേ.) എങ്ങനെയാണ് വ്യക്തമായ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ചായ്‌വ് ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും മനോരമ ഒരു പത്ര വ്യവസായമെന്ന നിലയില്‍ ഇത്രയും വിജയിച്ചത് ? അതും സ്വന്തം അജണ്ടകള്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള വാര്‍ത്തകള്‍ പടച്ചു വിടുകയാണ് എന്നുള്ള ആരോപണങ്ങള്‍ പലപ്പോഴും ആരോപിക്കപെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളപ്പോള്‍ ! കാരണങ്ങള്‍ പലതാകാം. (ഇതിനു വേണ്ടി ഒരു റിഗ്രെഷന്‍ അനാലിസിസ് നടത്തി Rsquare values താരതമ്യം ചെയ്തു നോക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. ഒരു പക്ഷേ IRMA യിലെത്തിപ്പെടുന്ന ഭാവി വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്ക് അവരുടെ ഗവേഷണ പര്യവേക്ഷണ ത്വരകള്‍ തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ ഇതിലൊരു വളരെ ആഴത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു പഠനം തന്നെ നടത്താവുന്നതാണ്.  

Realtime travelogue !!

I am writing and publishing this post during a journey from hyderabad to manjeri using the just activated mobile office in my phone.
6am reached bangalore. Bus bay 19 for the local buses towards myrore road satellite bus station.

Well this attempt was an utter failure. Not the least because battery of my mobile was running out and it was really tedious to type in the material and publish. Nonetheless I could reach Kalpetta before 1.30pm the following day and after meeting a few people there, reched home comfortably by 6'O clock. 

അവസാനം ട്രാന്‍സ്ലിറ്ററെറ്ററില്‍ "ണ്ട" എന്ന് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യാന്‍ പഠിച്ചു !!

ഞാന്‍ ഈ അടുത്ത കാലത്താണ് Google Transliteration ഇത്രയധികം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് തുടങ്ങിയത്. ക്രോമിലും ഫയര്‍ഫോക്സിലും രണ്ടു കിടു extension കൂടെ കിട്ടിയതോടെ ഫേസ്ബുകിലും ജിമെയിലും എന്ന് വേണ്ട കിട്ടാവുന്നിടത്തൊക്കെ ഒരു പാട്, പാട് പെട്ട് മലയാളത്തില്‍ ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്തു കമന്‍റി. അപ്പോഴാണ് ഞാനീ ഭയങ്കര പ്രശ്നം നേരിട്ടറിയുന്നത്. നമ്മള്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന അക്ഷരങ്ങള്‍ അല്ല ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്തു കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ പലപ്പോഴും വരുന്നത്. ഇപ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ ഇത്രയും പോസ്റ്റാന്‍ ഞാനൊരു പതിനഞ്ചു മിനിറ്റ് എങ്കിലും എടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.


ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പ്രശ്നം "ണ്ട" എന്ന അക്ഷരമായിരുന്നു. എന്തൊക്കെ ചെയ്താലും ചെല നേരത്ത് ചെങ്ങായി അങ്ങോട്ട്‌ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടില്ല ! വിശ്വത്തിന്റെ മണി മുഴക്കക്കാരന്‍ (bellwether എന്നതിന്‍റെ വിലക്ഷണമായ തര്‍ജ്ജമ ആണ് !) സാക്ഷാല്‍ ഗൂഗിള്‍ ചേട്ടന്‍ തരുന്ന സജഷന്‍സില്‍ പോലും "ണ്ട" എന്ന് വരുന്നില്ല. വേണ്ട എന്നെഴുതാന്‍ നോക്കുമ്പോള്‍ "വെന്റ" അല്ലെങ്കില്‍  "വെന്ദ" അതുമല്ലെങ്കില്‍ "വെന്ന്ട" എന്നൊക്കെയാണ് വരുന്നേ.  ഇതൊരു ഉദാഹരണത്തിന് വേണ്ടി പറഞ്ഞതാ, ഇപ്പൊ സംഭവം ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച അതെ പോലെ തന്നെ വരുന്നുണ്ട്. ഞാനീ പോസ്റ്റ് തുടങ്ങീട്ടു ഒരു പാട് കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞാണ് പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കുന്നേ. അതിന്‍റെടക്ക് ലവന്മാര്‍ ഇത് ശരിയാക്കുംന്ന്‍ നമ്മള്‍ വിചാരിച്ചില്ല. പോസ്റ്റ് തുടങ്ങിപ്പോയല്ലോ നമുക്കത് വഴിയേ കളഞ്ഞു പോകാന്‍ പറ്റില്ലാലോ. പക്ഷേ ഞാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞ പ്രശ്നം അടിസ്ഥാനപരമായി ഇപ്പോഴും നില നില്‍ക്കുന്നു. അതായതു  നമ്മള്‍ ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യുന്നത് ഒന്ന്, വരണത് വേറൊന്ന്. ഞാന്‍ 'ണ്ട' എന്ന് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യാന്‍ അവസാനം 'ചെണ്ട' എന്നോ മറ്റോ എഴുതി അവിടുന്ന് 'ണ്ട' കോപ്പി ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ nda/NDA/Nda/nTa എന്നൊക്കെ എഴുതി സജഷന്‍സ് എടുക്കുന്നു. പക്ഷേ എല്ലാ കാര്യത്തിലും ഈ സജഷന്‍സ് നോക്കണം എന്നായാല്‍ മലയാളം ടൈപ്പിംഗ്‌ന്‍റെ സ്പീഡ് തീരെ കുറഞ്ഞു പോകും. ഒരു ചെറിയ പോസ്റ്റ് ഇടാന്‍ അര മണിക്കൂര്‍ വേണം എന്നായാല്‍ എത്ര പേര് ഇതുപയോഗിക്കും ?

ഏറ്റവും എളുപ്പമുള്ള പരിപാടി ഗൂഗിളിനു പകരം നമ്മുടെ പുലിക്കുട്ടികള്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ സ്വനലേഖ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതാണ്. കിടു സംഭവമാണ്, ഉപയോഗിച്ചു നോക്കൂ. അതിന്റെ കൂടെ സന്തോഷ് തോട്ടിങ്ങല്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ മലയാളം സ്പെല്‍ ചെക്കറും ഉപയോഗിക്കാം.  

HP Mini Netbook

It has been more than seven months since I have joined SERP and it has took seven months for the organisation to provide me with a laptop err.. a netbook. My experience with netbooks was limited to nandy's Samsung and occasional  flirting with HCL-Me procured at a very pleasant price by SERP's ICT team for distribution to tens of thousands of SHGs of the state. Given the shoddy performance of both these units I wasn't particularly excited when I got a call from procurement section asking me to collect my office lapie. But I was for a surprise !! HP Mini has earned a well deserved appreciation from me.

First let's go through the specs

• processor : Intel Atom 1.67 GHz
• RAM : 1 GB
• HDD: 320GB
• Resolution: 1366 x 768

HP Mini's design is in line with other HP products, a very sleek and beautiful finishing in black matte. However keyboard is perhaps too minimal with END and HOME keys missing and function keys given as secondary alternatives to multimedia toggles. This is uncomfortable for persons used to the hot-keys in MS Office and other applications. My machine is preloaded with Windows 7 starter edition which boots to the home screen in about twenty seconds. I haven't installed any heavy applications so far. Nonetheless Office 2010 pro plus works excellent. One great feature is the No-OS to web and media a la the much expected Chrome OS. While booting the system we can set it to go directly to the HP minimal OS, which will wait for a few seconds for our mouse gesture in the absence of which Windows will load spontaneously. It has an amazing battery back up of more than six hours and I am really enjoying the new found freedom these days !
